Let’s grow together…
@ The Community Garden
Our Community Garden began in 2020 and has developed into a much loved asset to our local community that we want to share with as many of you as possible! We lease the 0.9 hectare field from St. Mary’s Church and our current lease runs until 2028. Tucked away behind St. Mary’s Church on West Hillbank, our Community Garden is only a 5 minute walk from Kirriemuir town centre. You can find us by following directions on Google Maps. We’re open on Mondays, Wednesdays and most Saturdays from 10am – 12pm.
Our garden has a small polytunnel, and we’ve recently been donated a greenhouse which we hope to build in early 2025. We grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, and we grow alongside our nature areas being developed by our Action for Nature volunteers. In 2025 we hope to increase emphasis on wellbeing by creating more seating areas, sensory areas and a dye garden.
We’re always happy to meet new faces, whether it’s to volunteer, buy our produce, or just to have a look around the beautiful and tranquil space. It’s best to get in touch beforehand if you’re thinking about coming along for the first time, as our open sessions can be called off at short notice due to volunteer and staff availability as well as adverse weather.

Buy Our Produce
An important part of what we do is making local, seasonal food available to everyone. In 2024 we grew 468kg of produce! The produce is sold to the public, with all proceeds being invested back into continuing to develop the garden. Volunteers are often welcome to a share of the harvest too.
You can buy our fresh produce direct from the garden during the growing season (April – November). Join our Weekly Produce WhatsApp Group for updates on what’s available each week. Our produce is also available to buy from our local zero-waste shop, A Longer Table CIC, on Kirriemuir High Street.
Volunteer at the Community Garden
Our volunteers are the beating heart of the garden. Our Food & Growing Project Officer Zoe is at the garden on Mondays and Wednesdays and is always happy to meet new faces. We have volunteers who open the garden most Saturday mornings too. We’re a friendly bunch who love a cup of tea and a giggle, and we love to show people around our amazing space, so please pop in and say hi! No experience necessary, and we always have a range of jobs, no matter your ability.
We asked our current volunteers why they volunteer at the Community Garden:
“To learn new skills.”
“To meet new, likeminded people.”
“It’s great for mental and physical health!”
“It’s a fun way to keep busy.”
“To make a difference in our community.”
“To spend time outdoors in the fresh air.”
Volunteering with SK
I volunteer at the Community Garden because it makes me feel good! I learn, I socialise, I get a blast of fresh air and some well needed exercise. For a small contribution of my time I get the huge pay off of feeling great both mentally and physically.
The Community Garden
I volunteered way back at the beginning during the setting up of the Community Garden. Over the years we’ve seen the transformation from a grassy field to one with defined beds and growing areas. I’m always learning more about gardening, meeting new people and getting out in the fresh air. The produce is always a nice reward too; what’s not to like!
Volunteering at the Community Garden
I’ve been a regular community garden volunteer since the early days. I always enjoy the combination of physical work, being part of a team and working to build a growing centre with community at its heart for Kirrie. I’m glad we grow in a sustainable way that gives lots of space to nature and offers folk healthy food that isn’t covered in plastic for an affordable price. I feel a real buzz when I take home a share of the veg or fruit we’ve harvested or sell it to the local community. Great that there are zero food miles too!
