Our Action for Nature Group Are…
Wild About Kirrie
What is Wild About Kirrie?
Are you worried about the loss of nature in your local area? Interested in encouraging more wildlife into your garden but don’t know how? Would you like to develop a pond, grow a mini wildflower meadow, encourage birds to nest or grow plants that will provide food and habitats for beneficial insects in your garden?
Our Wild About Kirrie (WAK) initiative aims to enhance local green spaces in Kirriemuir by transforming outdoor spaces into interconnected green corridors for wildlife. Every pot, window box or planter can make a difference, so even if you don’t have a garden you can still get involved! We can also visit your workplace. Knowledgeable WAK volunteers are here to help you on your way to supercharging the power of nature in your garden or outdoor space.
By signing up for the scheme, you will receive support from our volunteers who will visit your outdoor space, offer advice, and encouragement and help you to make some small, nature-friendly changes. You’ll also be first to hear about regular workshops covering topics like wildlife ponds and creating habitats, and have the opportunity to connect with other people with an interest in nature.

Did you know that together, the UK’s gardens are larger than all of our National Nature Reserves combined?
What sort of thing can we help with?
- Putting up a bird box or hedgehog house.
- How to select a range of nectar rich plants to provide pollinators with food for as much of the year as possible.
- Building a pond to attract birds, dragonflies and amphibians.
- Learning how to easily create natural and manufactured homes for wildlife.
- Advice on reducing the use of harmful chemicals.
Wild About Kirrie is also as much about what we don’t do, as what we do. For example, leaving areas of grass to grow long can provide a vital habitat for small mammals, as well as invertebrates and wildflowers.
