Play Streets comes to Duthie Street

On Sunday 29th May, the residents of Duthie Street held Kirriemuir’s first ever play streets event. Sustainable Kirriemuir were delighted to support Duthie Street in establishing play streets in their neighbourhood.

Massive thanks go to Paths for All for Smarter Choices, Smarter Places funding, Angus Council for their help with the road closure and Tayside Contracts for kindly providing the signs and cones. Thank you to Velo Tech for coming along to do lots of bike checks in time for a summer of cycling, and last but not least, a huge thank you goes to the wonderful residents of Duthie Street for a great afternoon.

What are Play Streets?

Play streets are neighbour-led short road closures, creating a safe space for children to play freely together on their doorstep. Play streets also help build connections and friendships between neighbours of all ages and backgrounds. You can read more about how they got started, and what difference they are making to communities all over the UK and beyond, on the Playing Out website.

Sustainable Kirrie are keen to support other neighbourhoods in Kirriemuir who would like to hold a play street event. If you would like to find out more, please contact us.
