Community Garden Open Day 2025

Over 30 staff and volunteers were pleased to welcome 140 visitors to the Community Garden on Saturday 31st May. An array of activities were set up for all ages to take part in, including planting up 2 large flower beds with carefully selected nectar-rich plants donated as part of a project by rePollinate, a charity set up to improve prospects for Scotland’s pollinators through practical action. We had an art activity area, a herbal tea blending area, and lots of lots of delicious cakes! During a pond dipping session, we were delighted that one young person found our first resident baby newt!

Our Action for Nature volunteers also launched their Wild About Kirrie initiative, by providing advice and support for anyone looking to create more wildlife-friendly gardens and outdoor spaces. We had dozens of plants for sale, including wildflowers, herbs and vegetables. Lots of visitors also left with a bunch of rhubarb, no doubt inspired by all the yummy rhubarb flavoured cakes on offer!

It was wonderful for our staff and volunteers to be able to show off all the hard work they’ve put in preparing and developing the Community Garden over the last year. Thanks to your generous donations we also raised just over £500 towards continuing our work around growing and nature. We’re now looking forward to a successful season of selling veg, making connections and supporting nature.
