Kirrie Apple Day – A Storming Success!

Our Apple day last Saturday at the Kirrie guide hall went down an absolute STORM!

There was a plethora of activity including fantastic face painting, a very spooky vegetable sale, gruesome recipe grab bags, brilliant bike repairs and some absolutely delicious apple juice (cold freshly pressed AND hot tasty mulled) for tasting!

We had lots of lovely visitors and thoroughly enjoyed chatting to you all about seasonal food and what we are up to at Sustainable Kirriemuir. We raised a fantastic £159.03 to go towards our ongoing local action on growing food, protecting nature, facilitating active travel and better valuing resources.

We would like to say a big massive thank you to…

🍏 The Kirriemurians who donated excess apples from their gardens. Without you, we couldn’t save the local apple bounty from waste year after year.

🍏 Farmtoun for sourcing us extra apples, donating delicious hot mulled apple juice, fruit leathers and tasty jams used in our tarts.

🍏 Velo Tech servicing lots of local bikes before the winter comes in!

🍏 Bespoken from the heart for the brilliant spooky face painting!

🍏 The wonderful local food businesses who helped with our treasure trail and made some yummy apple tasters! Joshua Plumtree, Star Rock Shop Confectionery Shop, Co-op, Sweet Simplici-Tea, 88 degrees, McLaren Bakers, A Longer Table, Glengate Larder & Deli, Bertram’s Quality Butchers, and Bridges Cafe.

🍏 All of our wonderful volunteers! We can’t do it without you.

Last but not least, please check out our brand new online resource, our Kirrie Seasonal Food Calendar to learn more about what is in season for eating all year round, like apples in late summer and autumn, and try to reduce your food miles!

We are already looking forward to next year.
